The Chromids are one of the Founding Four of the IDC and GLU, and were created by Chromoda the Everliving Machine. Chromoda is a living machine planet, and holds the Unicore at its core, which is a technological core that never runs out of power, holds all of the information gathered by its children, and can create and give life. Each Chromid is created and lives by the energy from the Unicore Shard which they are given, that also acts as their brain and connects them to The Source, which is the term Chromids use for Chromoda’s intergalactic network which connects them all. Chromoda created the Chromids to help learn all possible information in the universe. Chromoda is connected to all living Chromids at all times using The Source network, which allows it to see what they see, hear what they hear, know what they know and feel what they feel. All information gathered by any and all Chromids is “uploaded” into The Source instantaneously.

Chromids are sentient and intelligent. Though they are connected to Chromoda, they have free will and are each their own being. New Chromids are “born” when a new Unicore Shard is created or a Unicore Shard is split and it is placed into an empty shell. Each Chromid’s Unicore Shard grows as long as it lives, so creating additional Chromids is not only safe, but is almost necessary for many of the older Chromids that live, so that they do not need to continue growing their shell to hold it.

The Chromids are the Species among The Founding Four which provided the power supply for Thauma-Tech, which allowed intergalactic travel and led to the development of the Intergalactic Defense Council, IDC. As a very present species of beings in IDC space, the Chromids are very valuable to society, and provide sources of power, as well as being very functional for facilitating building of large structures. The Everliving Machine, Chromoda has taken the position of the council member representing the Chromids.

Chromids are separated into 3 general types: Auxiliary, Heavy, and Mercenary. 

Auxiliary Chromids are medium sized beings which resemble humanoids the most in shape and stature. They tend to take on roles in society related to interpersonal interaction, working in fields like business, research, politics, and customer service or hospitality.

Heavy Chromids are the most different from humanoids in shape and stature. Standing very tall, large, and powerful, Heavy Chromids tend to take on very labor intensive roles in society. They are very impactful in regards to construction and related fields, and have mostly replaced heavy machinery like forklifts, tractors, and such.

Mercenary Chromids fall somewhere in between the Auxiliary and Heavy Chromids. They get their name from the fact that they were originally designed to excel in combat and warfare. With the changes in society, and the existence of Supers, this role in society has been reduced, though Mercenary Chromids will still be regularly found in military ranks.

Chromoda is considered to be a potential point of weakness for the IDC. This is due to the fact that if corruption of The Source network were to occur, Chromoda and all connected Chromids may turn hostile and be used as weapons to take over the universe. There are Chromids known to have been disconnected from The Source and corrupted, these are known as Synthetica. It is of the utmost importance that Chromoda is guarded with the highest form of security, else it becomes the greatest known threat to existence itself.
